HOSTING ORGANISATION : KVDA – KENYA VOLUNTARY DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION
“Development against Dependence”
KVDA has since 1962 been an active partner in community development and has afforded the youth from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas opportunities to serve other society members by investing their time, skills, knowledge and money to render voluntary services in the most remote and usually inaccessible parts of Kenya where poverty levels are extremely high. They hope that through volunteers support and that of other like-minded humanity, we can mobilize human and material resources to enhance active participation of those recipients to development programs to significantly address the problems that hinder human and environmental friendly development approaches so that we sustain our collective efforts to eradicate poverty.

SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE EFC PROJECT
The project deals with the field of gender equality, focusing on overcoming the stereotypical roles and on women’s empowerment within the multimedia field.
The aim of the project is to tackle the challenge of one of the basic social principles – gender mainstreaming. We will strive for the improvement of communication skills of youth workers and young women, and strive for the reinforcement of the implementation of the knowledge in the local environment with the goal of greater empowerment and a more active social participation of women.

WHAT IS A SHORT TERM EVS?
Short Term EVS is a unique form of non-formal education and an intercultural learning experience which emphasizes the development of the participants’ “soft” skills, attitudes and personal growth.
The project uses this tool to help young people reach their long-term goals: past experience has shown that the Short Term EVS is most effective when it complements the work being done with young people on a local level. The Short Term EVS programme should be seen as a vehicle for positive change; it should be regarded as a tool which can stimulate a learning process that is already in motion on local level, and through which the volunteers will acquire empowering, enabling intercultural communication skills.

PROJECT SUPPORTED BY
Erasmus+, KA2 – Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices. Capacity Building in the field of Youth.
Participation in EVS is free of charge for volunteers. During their stay abroad, the volunteer has arranged accommodation, health insurance, language support, transportation to work and meals. The volunteer is entitled to the monthly allowance (pocket money) and reimbursement of travel expenses. In addition to taking care for the volunteer in the material means, the EVS enables young people a non-formal education and life experience in international environment, which enhances volunteers’ professional skills and competences and thus contribute to his/her employability. It also increases volunteers’ sense of solidarity, develops their social skills and encourages active involvement in society.
